Here or there…

February 28th, 2009

Mike and I are planning our anniversary trip this summer … we’ll have been married 15 years in August. Stacy has graciously offered to keep the kids so we can go away together, but now we can’t decide where to go.

We’re lazy people. Really, we are. We want to go somewhere and eat yummy food, wander around, maybe go to the beach or shop or sight-see. Not much else.

We talked about going to New Orleans because we’ve always loved going there together, and because the food is so amazing. But it seems wrong to plan an entire trip around the praline bacon at Elizabeth’s.

We talked about going to the Keys, but that’s a 6-9 hour drive, and I’m not so keen on that. We talked about going to our favorite beach, but we go there with the kids. We talked about a cruise.

We talked about Gatlinburg and Savannah. We’ve done a lot of talking. Not really any actual planning. And since we’re saving up for this, we need to do some actual planning. So I’m asking for suggestions…

Where should we go?

We haven’t really travelled anywhere w/o our kids, but i have been to Gatlinburg, and I wouldn’t recommend it. It was VERY commercial, and busy and kind of dirty. Not anything like I expected.

I say if you like New Orleans, then go! I’ve never been. But I’m all about going places that I know I will be able to do the things I will enjoy!

So what if you just like the food–go for it. I am all for just doing what you would really like to do and not worrying about why. We don’t travel (hubby likes staying HOME) but I enjoy taking trips on my own with the kids. We don’t do things because that is what other people do, we do them because that is what we want to do. We usually go to Ocean City, MD in the summer and just enjoy the beach and the board walk. When I was growing up we went to Niagara Falls (only 2 hours from here), Ocean City, and Daytona Beach. We would go wherever, go out to breakfast, wander around or rent bikes, and play board games–if it rained we would go to the movies. Nothing we couldn’t do at home but fun to do somewhere else.

I’ve always wanted to go to New Orleans, and hope to do so soon. But if you don’t end up going there, I highly recommend St Augustine!

Don’t go to the keys. I hated the keys! Okay, so you probably don’t care what I hate or like.

Have you considered Kansas? Just kidding! Nobody wants to come here!!!

I think New Orleans would be fun. A cruise would be nice too. Lots and lots of food, plus you get to visit more than one place.

New Orleans is amazing. We’ve always loved our time there.

    Carino’s, Cajun Landing, Oriental Wok, Atwood’s, Harlow’s, Schlotzsky’s, the Cottage…

    What more do you need?

Besides, how romantic would it be to spend your anniversary where you two met and fell in love?
