Precious Moment in the Mama Van

June 13th, 2008

I worry sometimes (Mike would say that I should end this sentence here and not bother going any further, but oh, no, I’m going on!) about the fact that we haven’t taken our kids to church regularly in two years. That’s right. Two years. We’ve visited here and there but haven’t found our place yet.

And I worry that they are missing valuable spiritual guidance.

Today, on the way home in the van, Eliza says to me, “Mama, it’s gonna rain.” There were big, dark clouds above us, so I told her she was probably right. She said, “we need to thank God.”

And she clasped her hands together and prayed to thank God for the rain.

And I’m thanking God that even while we’ve been away from organized religion, we’ve been close enough to Him that Eliza knows to thank God for the rain and that she’s comfortable enough with Him to say a spontaneous prayer in the mama van.

Is it because you haven’t found a church you feel comfortable in? Or is it time constraints? Is it because of the trust issues you talked about yesterday?

You don’t have to answer, if I’m being nosy….

Church is so valuable, and yet I think we can have a false sense that God is only at church. I think if you are praying with your kids and telling them that God is with them always, and reading scripture to them, so they are hearing God’s truth, then you needn’t worry that they aren’t getting what the need spiritually.

However, church is so valuable for equipping YOu! That’s why I asked the questions above! No judgement here! Just curious!

We have home-churched for 3 years total, though we were in a church in between. It is amazing how much the kids learn from us!

You might not be at a church but you and Mike are great people who are close to God and that shines through to the kids and all of us around you.Lots of love

And that says a lot about Mama and Daddy, too!

We’ve been at our new church for a little over a year now. I am confident that we have found our church, but we still haven’t found our place there yet (if that makes sense).

I’m praying that you guys find the right place for you. It definitely takes time (even 2+ years!) :-)
