one dismal disappointing month

September 13th, 2008

Well, I made it through the first month of my Before the 15th personal challenge, and it wasn’t just a stellar attempt. I can’t say I made much progress. Maybe next month.

Now, instead of dwelling on it, I’m going to go enter some Coke points and then go try to figure out how I messed up my brand new page on Facebook.

I got all of the house clean today other than our room, so I’m thinking I’ll pick it up tonight. Or maybe just watch this week’s “Burn Notice.”

Cable Confessions

July 10th, 2008

Yesterday, I wrote about how I love tv. I failed to mention that I also love cable. Or that I think cable is a basic utility like water and electricity. Or how I cannot imagine life without a dvr.

That would probably explain why so much of my viewing is on cable, especially in the summertime. Who doesn’t love that cable shows new shows in the vast tv wasteland that is summertime?! This week and next are the big summertime series openers, and I’m all excited. Here’s what we’ll be watching at Chez Chel in the next few weeks.

Tonight, “Burn Notice” begins its second season (in about seven minutes, to be exact). I didn’t watch it last summer, but USA put it on one day a week or so ago as a marathon, and Mike and I have been watching all week getting ready for tonight’s episode.

Next Wednesday, “Project Runway” starts its fifth season. I adore this show. Seriously. And I love that so many people at work watch it, too, so we get to discuss it the next day. It airs at 10 p.m. (EST) on Bravo.

And next Friday, oh, next Friday. It’s the “Monk”/”Psych” night. Griff’s excited about that one, too. For those of you who don’t know, Monk’s amazing and funny and fun and delightful. And Psych makes me laugh so hard I think I’ll spit Diet Coke. USA scored with that combination. And you know, right, that the cutie patootie who plays Gus also played Bud on “The Cosby Show?” How could you not like that?

So, with those shows and all of the Astros games, we’re pretty booked.

Close to perfect

July 6th, 2008

One of the consistent wishes of my mama days has been for the world to stop for just one day and let me off to rest. Alas, the world rarely does that for me.

But this weekend was as close to perfect as I have had in a long time. Friday did feel like the world stopped and our little house and family was enjoying the standstill. Mike got dressed to go outside to get the papers, but the rest of us stayed in our jammies all day long. We watched “What Not to Wear” and “Dirty Jobs,” both in marathons.

And we were lazy and happy.

The rest of the weekend saw a little more activity, but not much. Mike and I are watching last season’s “Burn Notice” trying to get caught up for when this season starts on Thursday. I made some jewelry, and we all played some Shrek monopoly. It really was quite lovely.
