A Career?!

Today was an especially tense day at work for a variety of reasons, and it all came to a head at a late afternoon meeting with my team. My supervisor was talking and talking, and at some point, I kinda was listening to him the way I listen to Griff tell me about tv shows… you know, the way. You know you do.

And then he said something that caught my attention. He said, “this is your career.” And I honestly could feel the air sucking out of my chest. “Oh, no! No, it’s not.” My poor supervisor… he was truly clueless. “This is not a career. THIS is a job.” What I didn’t say was that I’ve had a career, and this isn’t one.

God bless him, he just moved on as if I hadn’t said a thing. I may work this job for the rest of my life, but this is no career.
