if you came to my house today…

November 13th, 2009

gosh, I’d appreciate it if you would just go ahead and get busy, huh?

You there in the front, I’m going to need you to hop on the laptop and do some googling to figure out this little ant problem we have in the front room. Once you determine the solution, I’ll throw you the keys to run out and get whatever super-strong poison that will kill the little beasts best.

Now that I’m thinking about it, take your friend with you. Someone’s going to have to sweep up all of those dead ants. But don’t use the good broom.

That’s for the girl in the red. She’s going to sweep the house so the guy with her can do the mopping. Be sure to get around the fridge. Something icky spilled there earlier, and I’m quite sure someone’s going to stick while looking for something less healthy than the yogurt I keep offering.

I’m going to need two volunteers for the laundry. You two? Ok, great. I really need to find a washcloth. I’ve taken my make-up off with a handtowel for two days.

Hey! You… yeah, you, Mr. Headed for the Door. You’re on bathroom duty ( yeah, I said duty). Wish you’d volunteered for the ant killer job, don’t you? See. Volunteering is good.

Geez, I’m so glad you all dropped by to be my house elves. I was seriously in need.

When you’re all done, we’ll all go out for a really fabulous lunch. Unless someone kinda wants to cook. I’m good with that, too.

Geez, I’m glad you came to my house today.

(thanks to Kellie over at LaVidaDulce for the idea)

What’s on Your Nightstand?

September 23rd, 2008

Over at 5 Minutes for Books, they’re doing a new carnival about the books we’re all reading. Now, they suggest taking a photo of your nightstand where you stack your books, but that’s way too personal for me. Geez, you’d see a baggie full of Sharpies, some recently finished but not yet mailed jewelry, a half empty (full?) Diet Cranberry Raspberry Snapple, and a some photos of me through the years amongst the books. No need exposing anyone to that, now is there?

But… it’s a fun idea. So, here goes… the books I want to read between now and this time next month.

1. “Savannah Blues” by Mary Kay Andrews - love the Weezie stories

2. “Eat, Pray, Love” by Elizabeth Gilbert - I’ve already started this one, but I’m hoping to finish it soon.

3. an unnamed insurance textbook - I was supposed to have read this (and tested on it) back in May. Obviously, I’m a teensy bit behind. I’d like to get this as close to finished as possible so that I don’t have it hanging over me during the holidays.

4. “Hatchet” by Gary Paulsen - this is the next book Griff’s gifted teacher is going to have them read, and I try to keep up with them.

Now, we’re also supposed to say when we read these books. Are they serious?! Um, while overseeing homework, after the kids go to bed, at the salon (oh, how I love those coloring appointments!). Snippets of time stolen from other things. Isn’t that how all moms read?

So, go read.

40 or Less… Seriously? Only 40?

May 2nd, 2008

Robin over at Pensieve is having a new Carnival…she posts a photo each week & the participants have to write something to describe their reaction to it in 40 words or less. I’m not usually one to use fewer than 40 words for anything, but by Friday night, that’s probably about all I have in me.

So here’s my first attempt. Forty words exactly … who knew?

Spring… ah, glorious spring… the warmth of the sun on my face… the vivid colors, the green, the yellow… oh, thank you, spring… for daffodils and hummingbirds and warm breezes and tulips and puffy white clouds on crystal blue skies…
