a buncha buncha

May 22nd, 2010

We have the cousins for the weekend. Last night, we gathered all of them around and played a card game, and I kicked their collective tushies. I do love that. We put the girls to bed late (hoping incorrectly that Eliza would sleep late) and then told the boys they could stay up as late as they wanted. I sent Mike in around 2 this morning to tell them maybe they should consider going to sleep. When I heard them again around 3, I decided to leave them be. They’d been warned. Today will be a struggle, I’m sure, as they have to keep up and be cheerful.

We’re taking them all to see Shrek (painting everyone’s fingernails with the groovy OPI Shrek colors) and then I’m going to sign up for a cake decorating class with a friend. I’m thinking later we’ll have another round of the card game, this time with the slushy punch I made (thanks to Mika & her mama for the incredible recipe that I told Eliza I’ve been making since before she was born… before Griff… before I met MIke).

Tomorrow, while Mike takes the cousins home, I’m going to watch a friend’s bellydance recital. A big, fun weekend. I do love having a house full of people. I’d have the kids come visit more if I could work it with everyone’s schedules.

Wordless Wednesday - hand, hand, fingers, thumb…

When we had the cousins one weekend, I painted everyone’s nails - boys included. And I love this photo of their hands together. Eliza’s, obviously, are the tiny ones.

Menu Plan Monday - Halloween edition!

October 26th, 2008

The start of another week. I swear the weekends come to an end way too fast these days! I’d completely forgotten that this coming Friday is Halloween, which means I have no candy yet. I’ll have to go do some candy shopping later. And the Target has their Halloween stuff on sale, so I may have to swing by there. They had really groovy cupcake tins that I wanted.

Anyway… our meals this week.

Sunday - brinner

Monday - Chicken Ceasar Salad

Tuesday - Bruschetta Chicken with spinach salad

Wednesday - Chicken Lo-Mein

Thursday - leftovers

Friday - Vampire Fangs in Blood (apple slices dipped in strawberry jam), Mummy Dogs

Saturday - We’ll be with the cousins celebrating their birthdays.

I’d like to buy the world a Coke…

June 28th, 2008

Or just make it a Coca-Cola cake. My nephew, Hayden, didn’t believe me that there was such a thing as a coca-cola cake, so, of course, I had to make one to prove him wrong (Much like the chocolate pie).

I had Eliza, Griff, Hayden, Hannah, and Griff’s friend, Cody, help me make the cake. Everyone got a turn.

Cody, Hayden, Hannah, me (needing some color on my hair & a cut to my bangs!), Eliza

Not So Good… Are You Kidding Me?!

May 3rd, 2008

So this morning, we went outside and did water colors on the side of the house. They all thought it was great at first… the boys were stoked to ‘graffiti’ the house… but by the end, it was just us girls. I thought they all did some pretty groovy artwork. It was all very in-tune with each personality. Hannah painted rainbows and flowers. Griff painted Pokemon. Hayden wrote Gators trash talk & Eliza just drew pretties.

After that, the kids had a shaving cream fight. Four cans of the cheapest shaving cream I could find provided an hour of a good time. I think it was $4 well spent.

Looks like fun, doesn’t it? There is still shaving cream all over our back yard… on the swingset, the porch screen, the grass. Everywhere.

Now, eventually, the shaving cream ran out and their skin began to dry out (as will happen with cheap shaving cream!), and so I cranked up the water hose and hosed them all off. Threw a little extra water on the garden while I was there.

Next, we had sugar-free Kool-Aid slushies. And we tried water balloons, but I always forget what a pain in the tushie it is to fill them up with four kids standing over you saying ‘me, next, me, next.’ I gave that one up quickly. But we did take a couple of minutes to laugh at Hayden’s shaving cream hair.

Then, we broke out the baby oil and the slip & slide. It was a pain in my tushie (actually my sunburnt shin and my wrist when I fell) to get it in the right spot, but it was a good time.

Mike came home from commencement, and while I was showering, he asked the kids about their day.

Eliza gave him a detailed account of her day.

Hannah said, “it was good.”

Hayden didn’t answer.

Griff said, “not so good.”

Little snots. I’m going to go make some Amish Friendship Bread & I just might share with them if they can each come up with one thing they enjoyed about today. Me? I enjoyed the painting and the music and the sun and the laughter.

But most of all, I enjoyed Mike coming home.
